Kenton County School District welcomed 14,789 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 14,789 students enrolled in Kenton County School District schools in the 2022-23 school year, 0.2% more than the previous year, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.2% of them were boys, and 48.8% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, making up 81.3% of the Kenton County School District's total enrollment.

Kenton County School District roughly covers 18 schools within Kenton County and has a main office in Fort Wright.

Among the 18 schools in Kenton County School District, Simon Kenton High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,934 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Kentucky is in the midst of a statewide teacher shortage as turnover rates spiked to 10.9% in 2023, up from an 8.9% nine-year average. This issue is more prominent in schools with more low-income and minority students.

Data also shows that between 2019 and 2023, there was an increase of 260% in the number of available teaching posts in Kentucky schools. This often leads to larger class sizes, combining programs, and retaining staff despite potential negative impacts on teacher working conditions.
