Laser treatment offers new hope for Cincinnati snorers

Matt Strange Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, Interim Chief Information Officer | The Christ Hospital Health Network

CINCINNATI (October 10, 2024) – The Christ Hospital Health Network's Aim For Wellbeing is now offering a new treatment to help reduce snoring and alleviate sleep apnea symptoms. The Fotona NightLase™ procedure is a non-invasive laser treatment that targets the tissues in the back of the mouth and tongue. This process helps to contract and tighten these tissues, which can vibrate during sleep due to airway narrowing. By allowing air to move more freely through the nose and mouth, it aims to decrease snoring and improve sleep quality. The procedure takes about 45 minutes.

Steve Amoils, MD, medical director at Aim for Wellbeing, stated, "At least 75% of our patients list snoring and lack of sleep as issues negatively impacting their health." He noted that many patients are hesitant about surgical procedures or find CPAP machines challenging to use. "With the Fotona NightLase™, patients do not need to undergo anesthesia and have no downtime before going home for a better night’s sleep," he added.

This technology is being offered for the first time in Greater Cincinnati. Dr. Amoils suggests that patients track their snoring using a sleep tracking app before and after undergoing the procedure. Patients generally report improved sleep quality and positive feedback from their partners following treatment.

The number of treatments required varies; some patients may need up to three sessions over six months for optimal results, while others might notice significant benefits after just one session. Those interested in consultations can contact (513) 791-5521 or visit www.AimForWellbeing.org.
