Marcus Romanello Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer | The Christ Hospital Health Network

CINCINNATI (October 4, 2024) – The Christ Hospital Health Network and St. Elizabeth Healthcare are set to announce Phase 3 of Project Heart ReStart at a press conference on October 8 at the Florence Nature Park Event Center in Florence, Kentucky. Key speakers will include Debbie Hayes, President & CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network; Garren Colvin, President & CEO of St. Elizabeth Healthcare; Kim Moser, Kentucky State Representative for the 64th District; Jeff Mallery, Chief of Police for the Florence Police Department; Mark Peters, Vice President of Avive Solutions, Inc.; Josh Vogel from the Rotary Club of Cincinnati; Michael Constantino from the Kenton County Rotary Club and others.

Project Heart ReStart began with a collaboration between various organizations including the Rotary Club of Cincinnati and local hospital systems. In its first phase, $260,000 was raised to purchase 130 AEDs for Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputy cruisers. Phase II expanded this effort by raising $200,000 to equip vehicles across 26 additional law enforcement agencies in Hamilton County with AEDs. Overall, Project Heart ReStart has secured $460,000 to provide 230 AEDs.

The initiative aims to increase survival rates during cardiac events by equipping first responders with AEDs and providing CPR training. "Having an AED for our first responders on the scene of a cardiac event increases the survival rate from 10% to 40%," according to project organizers.

Phase III will see Project Heart ReStart expand into Northern Kentucky through a partnership with St. Elizabeth Healthcare. This phase will outline initial donations and future goals as part of ongoing efforts inspired by Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest incident during a football game in January 2023.

The Christ Hospital Health Network is known for its acute care hospital in Mt. Auburn and other facilities throughout the region. It boasts over 1,300 physicians and more than 6,500 team members dedicated to community health improvement.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare operates six facilities across Northern Kentucky and surrounding areas with a mission-driven focus on community health improvement through quality care initiatives.
