The Christ Hospital Health Network in Cincinnati is organizing a free webinar focused on lung cancer awareness and education. Scheduled for Monday, November 18 at noon, the event titled "Lung Cancer: Clearing the Air on Early Detection & Treatment" will feature healthcare professionals discussing screenings and treatments for lung cancer. Participants can register online to attend.
Dr. Julian Guitron, thoracic surgeon, Dr. Krishna Gannamraj, pulmonologist, and Dr. Brittaney-Belle Gordon, medical oncologist, will be present to answer questions related to lung cancer during the webinar.
Lung cancer is recognized as the leading cause of cancer deaths among American men and women. While smoking remains the primary cause, secondhand smoke, family history, and environmental factors also contribute to risk factors. Symptoms often do not appear until advanced stages of the disease.
"When detected early," stated Dr. Guitron, "lung cancer can be removed surgically, often without the need for chemotherapy or radiation." He emphasized quitting smoking as an essential preventive measure.
Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highlight Kentucky and Ohio among states with high rates of adult smokers. The American Cancer Society projects that over 235,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year alone.
