The snow emergency declared in Fort Wright on January 5th has been lifted as of noon today. Residents can now park on all public streets without restrictions.

Despite the cancellation, severe winter weather and cold temperatures are expected to persist through the weekend. Authorities warn that icy road conditions may continue due to sub-freezing temperatures and wind chill. Travelers are advised to exercise caution.

City officials extended their gratitude to emergency response staff, particularly highlighting the efforts of the Fort Wright Public Works Crew. This small team, consisting of three full-time employees with additional part-time support from other departments, has been working diligently since Sunday afternoon. They have managed over 100 streets totaling nearly 80 miles, including major roads like KY 17, Highland Pike, and Dixie Highway.

Residents are reminded that winter weather remains a concern until spring arrives. It is recommended that residents prepare for severe winter conditions by having emergency plans in place. This includes making alternative parking arrangements if necessary, checking batteries in essential devices, charging cell phones fully, and stocking up on water and non-perishable food items. Those with generators should ensure they are functioning properly and understand how to use them safely. The community is encouraged to assist elderly neighbors and other at-risk individuals.

"Thank you - Be Safe!"
