The City of Fort Wright has lifted the snow emergency as of 12 p.m. on January 7, 2025. This decision allows on-street parking to resume on all public streets. The snow emergency was initially declared on January 5 at 1:00 p.m.
Despite the cancellation, severe winter weather conditions are expected to persist through the weekend, with temperatures and wind chills remaining below freezing. Officials advise caution due to potential icy road conditions.
City authorities extended gratitude to the emergency response staff, particularly highlighting the efforts of the Fort Wright Public Works Crew. "With only three full-time employees and some part-time help from other departments, they are responsible for maintaining over 100 streets that amount to nearly 80 miles of roadway including from time to time some very heavily traveled state roads such as KY 17, Highland Pike, and Dixie Highway," a statement noted.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant about winter weather risks until spring arrives. Recommendations include having an emergency plan in place, ensuring alternative off-street parking arrangements if necessary, checking batteries in essential devices, charging cell phones fully, stocking up on water and non-perishable food items, and ensuring generators function safely.
The city encourages community members to assist elderly or at-risk neighbors during this period.
