A new initiative by the City of Fort Wright offers residents a unique way to honor loved ones while enhancing public spaces. Through the Community Bench Program, individuals can purchase a commemorative bench that serves both as a tribute to special people and a functional asset to the community.
Each bench is a six-foot structure, featuring a two-toned design with a cedar-colored seat and backrest, supported by a black aluminum frame. The materials used include high-grade recycled plastic for durability against UV rays and moisture. Adding a personal touch, benches come with a customizable cast bronze plaque for messages of "kindness, love, recognition, or hope." The plaques are subject to certain restrictions, excluding "fighting words," obscenity, or other potentially harmful messages.
"Bench orders will be placed in bulk," ensuring cost-effectiveness and streamlined installation by the city's Public Works Department. The city retains ownership of the benches, pledging maintenance for a decade before deciding on further action.
The price for a commemorative bench, including all associated costs and maintenance, is set at $2,500. Payments can be made via cash, check, or credit card, with checks being addressed to the City of Fort Wright at 409 Kyles Lane, Fort Wright, KY, 41011.
Currently, 15 locations are available for these benches throughout the city. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Jill Cain Bailey for further details.
