Lily Russell has been appointed as the President-elect of Educators Rising Kentucky for the 2025-26 academic year. Russell, who will be a junior at Dixie Heights High School and also attends Ignite, is set to take on this leadership role in the organization dedicated to students interested in education-related careers.
Educators Rising Kentucky, previously known as Future Educators of America, serves as a career and technical student organization (CTSO) for middle and high school students. It operates as a state affiliate of the national Educators Rising organization and collaborates with Phi Delta Kappa (PDK), which supports teachers and school leaders throughout their careers.
The mission of Educators Rising is "to inspire and grow current and rising educators to become community leaders and advocates for high-quality education." Its vision aims "to eliminate the teacher shortage by reimagining educator pathways." These goals align with PDK International's core values: community, leadership, service, optimism, and excellence.
Educators Rising focuses on creating clear pathways in every school district for young people aspiring to become skilled educators. Through its network, students can access resources, form connections that impact educational opportunities through various activities, engage in projects aiding educators, and participate in performance-based competitions.
Student leaders like Russell will contribute to planning state conferences and meet with legislators to discuss future educators' needs. They will also represent Educators Rising Kentucky at regional events across the Commonwealth and attend the national conference scheduled for June 2026.
