The City of Fort Wright is moving forward with its 2025 Road Improvement Project, which includes resurfacing and repairs on several local streets. The city has coordinated with utility companies to ensure infrastructure updates are completed before roadwork begins, aiming to reduce long-term costs for taxpayers.
According to the city, the Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD) replaced water mains on General Drive and Pickett Drive ahead of the scheduled street resurfacing. Rector Excavating was contracted by NKWD to carry out these replacements, and all service tie-ins have been completed. Earlier in the year, Duke Energy also upgraded several gas services in the area.
In February 2025, Riegler Blacktop was awarded the contract for road resurfacing. The project will cover General Drive, Pickett Drive, Pickett Court, and George Huser Drive. The total contract price is $649,342.25 and includes milling and paving as well as necessary concrete repairs.
Riegler Blacktop has nearly finished replacing sections of sidewalk and making spot curb repairs. Milling of roadways is expected before installing the final surface layer. The city anticipates that milling and paving will occur in September, but notes that weather or material availability could affect this timeline. Substantial completion of the project is expected by the end of October 2025.
"Please remember to exercise caution when driving, walking, and/or bicycling in all construction zones for the safety of our staff, our contractors, and the protection of your own life and property."
