Malina Basler, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the Kenton County School District (KCSD), has been named Human Resources Professional of the Year by the Kentucky Association of School Human Resources Managers (KASHRM). The award highlights her leadership and commitment to supporting both staff and students within the district.

Basler brings 28 years of experience in education, having served as a teacher, principal, and administrator. Her background gives her insight into the needs of educators and students alike. According to a KCSD representative, "Malina's approach is deeply intentional. She goes beyond her duties to create meaningful change. Her focus on people and processes has not only improved our district, but has also created a more supportive and welcoming environment for everyone."

Among the initiatives Basler has introduced are Walk-In-Wednesdays, which help speed up hiring; mock interviews that offer college students feedback from principals; internship opportunities for high school students interested in education careers; and an employee incentive program aimed at recruiting new staff through current employees.

Her leadership has contributed to a staff retention rate averaging 99.36% during the 2024-25 school year. She also uses surveys to gather feedback on professional development needs to ensure training remains relevant.

A KCSD representative said, “Malina truly exemplifies what it means to be a leader. She doesn't just delegate tasks; she creates a vision and then builds the systems to achieve it. This award is a testament to her remarkable contributions and exemplary leadership.”
