Christ Hospital earns bronze level recognition from AMA for promoting healthcare worker well-being
Julie Holt Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer | The Christ Hospital Health Network

The Christ Hospital Health Network has been awarded the Bronze Level recognition by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a Joy in Medicine™ health organization. This recognition is part of the AMA's program to honor organizations that prioritize enhancing the well-being and professional fulfillment of physicians. The distinction is valid for two years.

Debbie Hayes, President and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, “We are honored to be included in the American Medical Association’s Joy in Medicine™ for health care organizations nationwide.” She emphasized the importance of clinician well-being across their network and their commitment to combating stressors and potential burnout among team members.

Nationally, physician burnout rates have decreased below 50 percent for the first time in four years after peaking during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, continued efforts are necessary to support doctors' well-being and help achieve national health goals.

Mark Manley, MD, Medical Staff President at The Christ Hospital Health Network, highlighted their commitment to creating an inclusive workplace: “At The Christ Hospital Health Network, the mantra ‘everything it takes’ must include supporting an inclusive and welcoming workplace for all of our team members.”

Jennifer Manders, MD, Immediate Past President of the Medical Staff at The Christ Hospital Health Network, noted that this recognition acknowledges their hard work in creating a supportive system while attempting to limit burnout.

Since its start in 2019, over 100 organizations have been recognized by the AMA Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Program. In 2024 alone, 62 health systems received this recognition for efforts to reduce burnout drivers and demonstrate competencies such as leadership and teamwork.

Bruce A. Scott, M.D., AMA President stated: “Physicians are humans caring for other human beings... There is no doubt change is needed... A national movement is gaining momentum to transform health care work systems...”

Additionally, The Christ Hospital Health Network was one of four systems in Ohio named to the All In: Wellbeing First Champions Challenge. This initiative aims to remove mental health questions from physician applications to encourage mental health support without stigma or repercussions.
